EWT Golf Fundraiser May 2022: A Success for Wildlife

The EWT Golf Fundraiser May 2022 was a major success. Thanks to Alex Forbes, our headline sponsor, golfers gathered at Stellenbosch Golf Club on 20 May 2022. The weather was perfect, and the stunning winelands provided a beautiful backdrop. Most importantly, the event raised vital funds for the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) to protect Africa’s threatened species.

We owe special thanks to Sarah Raine for her hard work. Additionally, we appreciate every golfer and sponsor who made this day possible. Because of your support, the EWT can continue its critical conservation efforts.

EWT Golf Fundraiser Mar2022: A Hole-in-One for Conservation

The EWT Golf Fundraiser Mar2022 proved to be one of our most successful events yet. Held on Thursday, 17 March at the picturesque Westlake Golf Club, the tournament coincided perfectly with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Fortunately, the weather gods smiled upon us – players enjoyed a windless day under brilliant blue skies, with Table Mountain providing a breathtaking backdrop to the action.

Over 100 enthusiastic golfers participated in this important fundraising event. While some demonstrated impressive skills on the fairways, others showed equal commitment through their spirited approach to the game. Regardless of scores, every player contributed to the wonderful atmosphere and helped raise vital funds for conservation.

Ford Wildlife Foundation sponsored research vehicle

We are profoundly grateful to the Ford Wildlife Foundation for their generous support as our headline sponsor. Their ongoing partnership provides essential mobility solutions that enable our field teams to protect endangered species in remote areas. Furthermore, we extend our sincere appreciation to all our hole sponsors, prize donors, and participating businesses who helped make this day possible.

Special recognition must go to Sarah Raine, whose tireless efforts in organising the tournament were instrumental to its success. Additionally, we thank the Westlake Golf Club staff for their professional support throughout the event.

The funds raised will directly support our critical conservation programs. Specifically, they will help:

  • Protect threatened species like rhinos and cheetahs
  • Restore vital habitats
  • Support community conservation initiatives
  • Fund essential research projects

Looking ahead, we’re already planning our next fundraising events. We encourage all participants to visit our website’s Events page for updates on upcoming opportunities to support wildlife conservation. Your continued involvement makes our vital work possible.

To all who participated: thank you for golfing for a cause. Together, we’re making a real difference for Africa’s wildlife!

CONSERVATION WEEK

Last week, the EWT held its annual Conservation and Development Week. This event gives EWT staff from all over the country the opportunity to connect, discuss projects, share lessons learnt, revise our conservation strategies, and give back to our community. It was wonderful to catch up with colleagues after lockdown, get our creative juices flowing, and inspire each other to take our conservation work to new heights. The South African National Blood Service also joined us for a day, enabling 21 staff members to donate much-needed blood to their reserves.

CAPE TOWN GOLF DAY

We hosted our very first golf day fundraising event in the mother city on 16 April at the Royal Cape Golf Club. Cape Town was at its most beautiful with perfect weather and no wind to speak of, and all of our players commented on what a great day out it was on an amazing course.

Fundraising is difficult at the best of times and during COVID-19, it has been even more challenging. That is why events such as this one are so important, helping to keep The EWT going and raising much needed funds for our conservation activities.

To host a successful event, you need lots of support, and the EWT had that in abundance at this event. A massive thank you to Jurgens Bekker Attorneys for sponsoring so many of our prizes and our celebrity fourball, and aha Hotels and Lodges for generously sponsoring some fantastic weekends away for our auction.

The Table Mountain Fund, Twizza, Syntell, and Bose Professional all sponsored holes on the day and played a round of golf themselves.

Jurgens Bekker, aha Hotels and Lodges, Q20, Painted Wolf Wines, Miir, Lancewood, Rhino Beetle Gin, Spanjaard, Blue Bottles Liquors, Sherry’s antiques, The Meter Man, Meerlust wines, Rob Little, and Adidas all sponsored some fantastic prizes that helped to make the day a success.

Thank you to all of our fourballs: Table Mountain Fund, Blur Bottle Liquors Paarl, Limecoal, Jurgens Bekker attorneys, Twizza, Allister Rogan, Rian du Plessis, The Meter Man, Alexander Forbes, ALP Investments, Independent Claims, Mission Engineering, Paper Boss, Syntell, Duncan McGuire, Craig Milner, John Lamont, Karen Kearns, Tania Ihlenfeldt, IQ Business, and aha Hotels and Lodges.

GIVING BACK TO THE EARTH, GIVING BACK TO THE FUTURE

Tammy Baker, EWT Business Development Officer, tammyb@ewt.org.za GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to stay connected and heal.

The entire EWT team is humbled by the support we received during our GivingTuesday campaign, and we express our sincere gratitude to each and every one of you. We could not do the critical work we do without your support.

We have received R44,186 of our target of R50,000. This is incredible support and has surpassed our previous Giving Tuesday campaigns. There is still time to donate and help us to reach our target of R50,000. We are only R20,000 away. Any donation no matter how big or small helps us to keep on doing what we do best – Conservation In Action. Giving Tuesday 1 December 2020 by Endangered Wildlife Trust | GivenGain

Thank you for giving back to the Earth and back to the future – helping us to protect forever, together

GOLFING FOR WILDLIFE

Our annual golf day, held on 27 November 2020, was a huge success and, aside from the funds raised from the golf day itself, there were other fundraising activities such as Beat the pro, and an auction, and EWT walked away with a whopping R240,000.

Thank you to our phenomenal MC/Auctioneer Mike the 40-Year-Old Rookie, and to AHA and Thornybush for donating wonderful accommodation packages, Sharry Banner for her donation of exquisite artwork, and Europcar who paired the accommodation vouchers with car-hire offers.
