DRYLANDS STRATEGIC CONSERVATION LANDSCAPE
Covering 110,268 km² across the Succulent Karoo, parts of the Nama Karoo, and South Africa’s west coast, the Drylands are one of the country’s most expansive and ecologically important landscapes.
EASTERN CAPE STRATEGIC CONSERVATION LANDSCAPE
The Eastern Cape Strategic Conservation Landscape is one of South Africa’s most diverse and ecologically rich regions. Stretching from the semi-arid Karoo to lush forests and coastal grasslands, it is home to more than 7,000 plant species and a wide variety of wildlife, including the Big Five, the Amatola Toad, and the critically endangered Albany Adder.
DRAKENSBERG STRATEGIC CONSERVATION LANDSCAPE
The Drakensberg Grasslands Strategic Conservation Landscape spans the mountainous regions of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Free State, and the Eastern Cape, and is one of South Africa’s most biodiverse and culturally significant areas. These high-altitude grasslands are home to over 2,000 plant species and rare wildlife such as Bearded Vultures, Wattled Cranes, and Sungazers.
SAVANNA STRATEGIC CONSERVATION LANDSCAPE
The Savanna Strategic Conservation Landscape spans parts of South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.It includes expansive grasslands, floodplains, wetlands, and vital river systems such as the Limpopo and Olifants.
KGALAGADI STRATEGIC CONSERVATION LANDSCAPE
The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (KTP) spans over 59,000 km² across Botswana and South Africa, forming one of Africa’s largest and most undisturbed conservation landscapes.
KAVANGO/ZAMBEZI TRANSFRONTIER CONSERVATION AREA (TFCA) STRATEGIC CONSERVATION LANDSCAPE
The Kavango Zambezi (KAZA) Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA) spans 201,710 km² across Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, making it the largest Transfrontier conservation area in the world.Â

The Niassa-Selous Transfrontier Conservation Area stretches across northern Mozambique and southern Tanzania and is one of the last large, intact wilderness landscapes in Africa.
