Your Legacy. Their Future.

This Wills Week (15–19 September), write your story into Africa’s wild story.

Why Your Will Matters

Writing a Will is one of the most important steps you can take. A Will protects your loved ones, reduces stress and costs at a difficult time, and ensures your wishes are honoured. Yet, more than half of South Africans still don’t have one.

While National Wills Week (15–19 September) offered a perfect chance to take action with free Will-drafting services, it’s never too late to create or update your Will. Protecting your loved ones and securing your legacy is important all year round.

The Power of a Legacy

Your Will can do more than protect your family. It can protect the wildlife and wild places that define Africa.

By leaving a bequest to the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), whether during Wills Week or at any time of year, you carry your love of nature forward. Your legacy becomes a promise that the endangered species and habitats you care about today will thrive for generations to come.

How Your Legacy Lives On

Every bequest makes a lasting difference:

  • Safeguarding species: From Amphibians and Reptiles to African Wild Dogs. Vultures, Cranes, and Cheetahs.
  • Conserving habitats: Wetlands, grasslands, rivers, and open spaces protected forever.
  • Inspiring generations: Each bequest is honoured in our Memory Forest, where an indigenous tree is planted as a living tribute to your legacy, a place for family and friends to reflect, heal, and celebrate life.

Leaving a Bequest Is Simple

  1. When drafting or updating your Will, simply ask your attorney to include a bequest to: Endangered Wildlife Trust (PBO number: 930 001 777 NPO number: 015-502 NPO IT number: IT 6247 USA EIN number: 33-2261884)
  2. If your Will is made in Rands or US Dollars, the EWT can offer you the tax deduction benefits.
  3. Notify our Donor Relations team so we can thank you and honour your legacy.
  4. Visit our Memory Forest and know your story will keep growing, just like the tree planted in your name.

As a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), the EWT can offer you a reduction on both Estate Duty and Capital Gains Tax. This means your legacy not only safeguards wildlife, but also reduces the taxable portion of your estate, ensuring more for your loved ones.

Tax Recognition
  • South Africa: The Endangered Wildlife Trust is a registered Section 18A nonprofit. Donations and bequests qualify for tax deduction under South African law.

  • United States: The Endangered Wildlife Trust USA is recognized as a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (EIN: 33-2261884). Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
