A limited number of RPC Ambassadors set themselves the challenge of ascending the famous Rhino Peak (3056m) and raising funds for the RPC Beneficiaries while doing so. Since its inception in 2016 the RPC has raised almost R5.2m for Wildlife ACT, The Endangered Wildlife Trust, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and the Bearded Vulture Recovery Programme. These funds are spent specifically on projects involving Vultures, Rhinos, and Cranes.\nLearn more about the EWT ( https://ewt.org ) team for RPC 2025.\nAll donations to the Rhino Peak Challenge are eligible to receive a tax 18A certificate. Please contact Tammy Baker at tammyb@ewt.org ( mailto:tammyb@ewt.org ) to find out more.\n[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”quick links Row” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” collapsed=”on” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”quick scroll Text” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”16px” text_letter_spacing=”0.5px” text_line_height=”1.4em” link_letter_spacing=”0.5px” link_line_height=”1.7em” text_orientation=”center” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nSupport our runners\nAngus Morton ( #angus ) | Ashley Gerrand ( #ashley ) | Ben Bert ( #ben )  | Cath Vise ( #cath ) |  Chelsea Taylor ( #chelsea ) | Dave McCollough ( #dave ) | Denise Uys ( #denise ) | Emma Thomson ( #emma ) | Ian Little ( #ian ) | Jonathan de Guisti ( #jonathan ) |  Lauren Barnard ( #lauren ) | Lyndell Luyt ( #lyndell ) | Meg van Niekerk ( #meg ) | Melissa de la Croix ( #melissa ) | Michal Muller ( #michal ) | Sergio Guerrera ( #sergio ) | Tammy Baker ( #tammy ) | Trevor Wilkinson ( #trevor ) | Yolan Friedman ( #yolan )\n[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,1_3,1_3″ admin_label=”angus – ashley – ben Row” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”d55b927b-608e-49c8-a7c2-982b39800e4d” collapsed=”on” global_colors_info=”%91%93″][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://ewt.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Angus.jpg” alt=”Rhino Peak Challenge” title_text=”Angus” admin_label=”angus Image” module_id=”angus” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_heading title=”angus morton” admin_label=”angus Heading” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_level=”h2″ global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_heading][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_5_font_size=”18px” global_colors_info=”%91%93″]\nFast Facts:\nAge: 34 | Hometown: Johannesburg | Occupation: Event Management\n[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”About me” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI am a son, brother, husband, and father.\nAlthough I’ve never formally been diagnosed, I’m pretty sure I have some form of functional ADHD. I can’t sit still for long periods of time and need to keep my mind busy with a multitude of things. As a result, I wear several hats:\n\n My main source of income comes from my own business, africaMASSIVE. In short, we do conferencing, events, and travel, with a focus on ecology related and academic projects. Website: https://africamassive.co.za/\n One of my main passions in life is trauma medicine. I am a first responder in the greater Midrand (Johannesburg) area and also share the knowledge as a Stop the Bleed instructor (https://www.stopthebleed.org/) which is accredited through the American College of Surgeons, and is owned by the American Department of the Defense.\n Sharing the spotlight with trauma medicine, is my passion for security and law enforcement. I am currently the SCF/CPF Operations & Patrols coordinator for Midrand Sector 5. We report to the Midrand SAPS Station and are their partners in policing. In addition, I am Head of Security for my neighbourhood, Barbeque Downs, in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, which has several thousand residents. In past years, I have also served on Anti-Poaching Units and led Farm Security (Anti-stock Theft) teams.\n Last but not least, is my love for everything living and found in nature. Whether it’s diving the ocean, spending time in the bush, or walking pangolins going through rehabilitation, I want to see/help/save everything and anything!\n\n\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Sporting bio” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI have been active and done sport from the moment I could walk. For me, besides the obvious health benefits, sport teaches discipline and allows you to meet many people from all walks of life. In high-school, I did almost every sport our school offered, and by the end of matric, was part of several 1st teams. I also represented KZN in some of these sports. Nowadays, I do whatever I can to stay active… From hiking, rock-climbing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, to golf, padel, and swimming (to name a few), I’m keen to do it!\n\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Reason for taking this challenge” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nTo highlight the phenomenal beneficiaries, and raise as much money for their projects as possible!\n\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_button button_url=”https://rhinopeakchallenge.co.za/donate.aspx?id=564f6a1c-3c32-41d8-bd03-9e01a3357268″ url_new_window=”on” button_text=”donate to angus” button_alignment=”center” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding_phone=”15px|30px|15px|30px|true|true” custom_css_main_element=”width:100%;” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://ewt.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Ashley.jpg” alt=”Rhino Peak Challenge” title_text=”Ashley” admin_label=”ashley Image” module_id=”ashley” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_heading title=”ashley gerrand” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_level=”h2″ global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_heading][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_5_font_size=”18px” global_colors_info=”%91%93″]\nFast Facts:\nAge: 38 | Hometown: Cape Town | Occupation: Africa Safari Expert\n[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”About me” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI’m a proud mom of two, happily married, and passionate about all things Africa. I’ve spent the past 19 years in the travel industry—14 of those with Go2Africa—where I’ve had the privilege of crafting unforgettable journeys for clients across this incredible continent. Travel isn’t just my job; it’s a way of life for my family. Whether I’m planning a once-in-a-lifetime safari or setting off on our next family adventure, I’m constantly inspired by Africa’s wild beauty, diverse cultures, and the meaningful connections we make along the way. Being part of the Rhino Peak Challenge gives me the opportunity to give back to the wilderness that gives us so much.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Sporting bio” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI’ve always had a strong connection to sport and the outdoors. Throughout my school years, I was highly active and competitive, particularly excelling in swimming, netball, water polo, and athletics. Sport was a major focus for me during that time, and I thrived in the team environment and personal challenges it brought. Since leaving school, I’ve remained committed to staying fit and strong through regular gym sessions and strength training. I’ve also pursued my love for the outdoors with experiences like hiking Lion’s Head, completing the Otter Trail, and trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda. Being active in nature is where I feel most alive—it fuels both my body and my spirit.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Reason for taking this challenge” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI’m taking on the Rhino Peak Challenge because I believe in protecting the wild spaces and iconic species that make Africa so extraordinary. As someone who has dedicated nearly two decades to sharing the magic of this continent with travelers, I’ve seen firsthand how conservation efforts directly impact the future of wildlife and local communities. This challenge is my way of giving back—to help ensure that rhinos, vultures, and other endangered species not only survive but thrive for generations to come. It’s also a personal journey for me, as a mom and adventurer, to push my own limits for a cause I care deeply about.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_button button_url=”https://rhinopeakchallenge.co.za/donate.aspx?id=f4bfcca9-12e5-43a2-a56d-46639c35a41a” url_new_window=”on” button_text=”donate to ashley” button_alignment=”center” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding_phone=”15px|30px|15px|30px|true|true” custom_css_main_element=”width:100%;” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://ewt.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Ben.jpg” alt=”Rhino Peak Challenge” title_text=”Ben” admin_label=”ben Image” module_id=”ben” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_heading title=”ben bert” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_level=”h2″ global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_heading][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_5_font_size=”18px” global_colors_info=”%91%93″]\nFast Facts:\nAge: 24 | Hometown: Johannesburg | Occupation: Masters student in Physics\n[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”About me” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI grew up close to nature, spending much of my childhood in and around the Kruger National Park and my family’s fly fishing farm. These early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for wildlife and the outdoors. Today, I’m a master’s student in physics at the University of Cape Town, where I split my time between academic research and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of the Cape Peninsula. When I’m not studying, you’ll usually find me trail running or rock climbing in the mountains. Nature conservation is something I’ve always wanted to be more involved in, and I see the Rhino Peak Challenge as an exciting opportunity to support a cause that’s close to my heart.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Sporting bio” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nSport has always been a central part of my life. Throughout my school years, I spent countless hours on the cricket pitch, rugby field, football ground, and hockey turf, developing a deep appreciation for physical challenge. In recent years, I’ve focused more on outdoor and endurance sports like rock climbing, surfing, and trail running. These activities challenge me physically and keep me connected to nature. They’ve become a key part of my lifestyle.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Reason for taking this challenge” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nThere are many reasons I’m excited to take on the Rhino Peak Challenge. The most important thing is to support nature conservation—something I care deeply about. But I’m also really looking forward to experiencing the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. It’s an incredible part of the world, and having the chance to explore it while contributing to a good cause makes this challenge especially meaningful.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_button button_url=”https://rhinopeakchallenge.co.za/donate.aspx?id=423f779b-ab8a-4d63-9248-514b40a66116″ url_new_window=”on” button_text=”Donate to Ben” button_alignment=”center” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding_phone=”15px|30px|15px|30px|true|true” custom_css_main_element=”width:100%;” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_css_main_element_last_edited=”off|desktop”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,1_3,1_3″ admin_label=”cath – chelsea – dave Row” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”d55b927b-608e-49c8-a7c2-982b39800e4d” collapsed=”on” global_colors_info=”%91%93″][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://ewt.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Cath.jpg” alt=”Rhino Peak Challenge” title_text=”Cath” admin_label=”cath Image” module_id=”cath” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_heading title=”Cath Vise” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_level=”h2″ global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_heading][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_5_font_size=”18px” global_colors_info=”%91%93″]\nFast Facts:\nAge: 46 | Hometown: Louis Trichardt, Limpopo | Occupation: Programme Manager for the Endangered Wildlife Trust\n[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”About me” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI am passionate about the work I do in conservation, in particular expanding and protecting areas to create safe space for wildlife to thrive.\n[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Sporting bio” open_toggle_text_color=”#959595″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#959595″ custom_margin=”5px||||false|false” custom_padding=”10px||14px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]\nI consider myself adventurous, rather than sporty. I love travel, adventure, trying new things, and find joy in pushing myself outside my comfort zone. I feel most alive when I’m surrounded by nature, the ocean, or dogs (preferably all three). I’m an avid tea drinker, big foodie, self-proclaimed carrot cake queen, and believe that nothing beats a good playlist, and the smell of the sea. Movement has become a celebration, and I’ve fully embraced being a “yes” girl when it comes to a challenge. I want my future children, and generations to come, to experience the same magic I’ve been lucky enough to witness. These animals and wild places deserve our love, respect, and protection.
